In our body, the Chondrocytes produce and maintain the cartilaginous matrix, which consists mainly of collagen and proteoglycans.
The cartilage extracellular matrix is produced by the chondrocyte and contains, as major constituents both, fibril-forming collagens and large aggregating proteoglycans, assembled into highly organized structures. *
